So Hollywood

Straight from the red carpet...

I'm continuing my previous thought, You Know You're in Southern Cal, and spinning it for moms. I had to take my son to the dentist today, and had such an LA moment. So I got this idea, and maybe a few people will chime in and add to this list.  I know my Mommies-partner Lisa must have a few!

You Know You're a Mom in LA When...
  • You wake up at four am to your kid shaking right along with the earthquake, thinking he woke up on a Disneyland ride!
  • The manager at the Children's Playroom is a child actor from back in your day and now a Playboy Playmate.
  • The prizes for the raffle at your child's preschool include a night with the kids from Nickelodeon and tickets to the opening night of Dancing with the Stars.
  • Your eight-year-old step-daughter comes home and says she needs a new agent and maybe new headshots, too!
  • You're sitting in the sandbox at the park with a well-known sitcom actress, chatting away, and absent-mindedly and insistently asking her, "I know we've met before, is it from the mommy-and-me at the church?!"
  • You take your kid to the dentist and you have to battle a crowd of paparazzi just to get in the front door!
The paparazzi at the dentist today!
These are just from my experience, so send in your ideas and add to this list!

During her accepetance speech Bigelow said, "I'd just like to dedicate this to the women and men of the military who risk their lives every day in Iraq and Afghanistan and around the world. May they come home safe."

But when it comes to the speeches, my award goes to Sandra Bullock, who won Best Actress in a Leading Role for "The Blind Side." The true story is about a woman whose family adopts an impoverished teenage. This was Sandra's first nomination and first winning, who beat out 16-time nominee Meryl Streep (Julie & Julia).
With a standing ovation, Sandra began her speech with "Did I really earn this, or did I just wear y'all down?" but then added a wonderful dedication to "moms that take care of their babies and their children no matter where they come from. Those moms and parents never get thanked." The step-mother of three looked stunning on stage wearing a slim-fitted classic metallic gown by Markiza.
Mother of three, Mo'Nique was the front-runner (sweeping all the previous awards this season) in the Best Supporting Actress race and won for her role as an absive mother in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire."
"First, I would like to thank the Academy for showing that it can be about the performance and not the politics," said Mo'Nique, who was criticized for not publically campaigning in previous months for the award.
And backstage Mo'Nique made the pressroom roar saying, "I'm a stand up comedian who just won an Oscar!"

Did you have any stand-out favorites?  Maybe you are like a lot of us and just haven't gotten out to see everything.  Watch a few trailers instead.  Share your opinions with us in a comment below.

Use this night as an excuse to gather some friends and have a fun evening.  Pick up some Wolfgang Puck hors d'oeuvres at Gelson's and pop open some champagne.  You can even let your kids feel involved; tell the little girls they can dress up in their play-gowns and pretend they are walking down the red carpet, complete with up-do's and play jewelry! And tell the little guys they can be an avatar for the evening!  Tell them to remember Avatars may be taller than humans and super strong, but they are kind and gentle giants! Then have all your guests fill out a ballot and have some fun seeing who was right!
